How to Assess PV Ribbon Supply Capacity
Ask how much capacity is available for your exact ribbon size, coating and packaging. Review current loading, changeover requirements, bottlenecks and the proposed delivery schedule alongside the supplier’s headline capacity.

Define the demand profile
- State specification mix, forecast, peak demand, order frequency and the required delivery window. Include qualification volumes and any changeover between sizes or coatings.
- Separate annual demand from a short peak requirement. Identify acceptable call-off arrangements and any inventory obligations before comparing capacity claims.
Locate the constraint
- Review the production route for the requested construction: base preparation, forming, coating, inspection and packaging as applicable. Ask which stage limits the actual specification.
- Consider setup time, changeovers, maintenance, staffing and existing load. Parallel equipment does not establish usable capacity unless the product and supporting processes are qualified.
Ask for relevant evidence
- Request recent output and inspection records for comparable products, available scheduling evidence and the plan for forecast changes. Use an agreed confidentiality and audit scope.
- Distinguish nameplate capability, demonstrated output, available capacity and a committed order schedule. Do not infer one from another.
Agree a delivery plan
- Confirm specification, quantity, qualification dependencies and planned milestones in the quotation or order. Review contingency arrangements for the identified constraint.
- Track actual delivery and quality performance against the plan. Record the committed quantity and delivery milestone for the exact specification.
